The weather has finally turned (50 degrees today!), thank goodness, and it’s safe to go outdoors again ( at least until the snow storm this weekend)!  Where once we were stuck inside, we can now enjoy adventures on the town and in the wilderness. Here are seven of our favorite activities to add to your Twin Cities bucket list today.

1. Take a Hike

Okay, we mean that in a polite way! Minnesota is a rich, green land filled with lots of natural wonder, and the Twin Cities are no exception. If you want to pull on a pair of boots and get out in nature, here are nine of the best spots in the area. Take a kiddo with you, enjoy time as a couple or get out and about on your own for a little well-earned solitude. If you have an elderly loved one, spring is also a perfect time to take them for a gentle stroll in nature.

2. Volunteer on Earth Day

April 22 marks the celebration of Earth Day across the world, so why not put on your galoshes and pitch in to clean up the world a little bit? Earth Day always brings lots of volunteer opportunities, from cleaning up highways or the lakeshore to lending a helping hand at public parks. This is an especially good activity for those with little kids.

3. Visit Common Goods Books

Although the weather is changing and the buds are breaking, plenty of cool snaps still abound in the Twin Cities. Enjoy a chillier day with a visit to Common Goods Books, one of the most beloved bookstores around. Enjoy its charming storefront, long stacks and literary events until the weather warms up again. Don’t forget to budget a few dollars for a new read as well – you won’t be able to resist.

4. Attend the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival

If you’re looking for an amazing event in April, you can’t go wrong with the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival, now in its 37th year. It lasts two weeks and screens hundreds of films from all over the world, so not only will you be able to find a movie you love, you’ll find a time that works too. Come join other enthusiasts in the park for an old-fashioned outdoor viewing experience.

5. Take a Paradise Charter Cruise

With sun on the river and a fresh breeze in the air, there’s no better time to step out and enjoy the beauty of Minnesota’s waterways. Join us for a cruise up the Mississippi, or enjoy a spin around gorgeous Lake Minnetonka, one of the best of the ten thousand lakes. You can either hop on board one of our public cruises, or you can make things intimate with just your own party for a birthday, anniversary or wedding.

6. Go See Farm Babies at the Minnesota Zoo

We know you love fluffiness, because we love fluffiness, because everyone loves fluffiness. Go get your fill of fluff by visiting the farm babies at the Minnesota Zoo: The chicks and lambs will give you an epic fix to tide you over until next year.

7. Make a Pilgrimage to Minnehaha Falls

These gorgeous blue-green cascades of water are worth a visit any time of year, but springtime is especially impressive due to all the snowmelt. Be sure to wear a jacket, though – that watery spray can get chilly!
