Okay, okay, so we know that some of you have actually already started school. But that doesn’t mean it’s time to hang up your swimsuits just yet.  There’s plenty of beach weather, late night sunsets, and firefly catching to enjoy.  Make the most of the remainder of summer weather by creating a bucket list.  Here are the top six things to add to your bucket list before heading back to school after Labor Day.

1. Public cruise with Paradise Charter Cruises

From swimming pools to beaches, there’s no denying that water plays plays a role in happy summers.  Take your love of water to the next level with a public cruise with Paradise Charter Cruises. Public cruises are available on both Lake Minnetonka (which is Sioux for “Big Water”) or the famous Mississippi River.  The sightseeing ticket is standard, but why not enhance your bucket list with one of the ticket upgrades such as brunch, pizza night, or Margarita Monday?

2. Minnesota State Fair

Beginning on August 24, the Minnesota State Fair promises to be a major highlight of the summer thanks to their rather hefty list of new attractions.  Plan for at least two days at this fair because there is more to do than one day can hold: favorites include Adventure Park, the daily parade, the Milk Run 5k, horse shows, and countless exhibits.  End the night on a colorful note as the nightly showing of Laser Encore’s Laser Hitz Show creates a light show that dances to the beat of the music.

3. Minnehaha Park

Stand in the center of Minnehaha Park and gaze at a gorgeous waterfall and you’ll find it hard to believe that you’re actually in a city park. A visit to Minnehaha Park is the perfect addition to your end-of-summer bucket list as there is no shortage of things to do in this park.  For the adventurous family, hit the bike path or get lost in a game of disc golf. Younger family members will enjoy the playground.  Even Fido will have fun when he visits the Minnehaha dog park.  Cool off in the wading pool then head to the Sea Salt Eatery for a bite to eat.

4. Minnesota Zoo

Even though virtually all zoos are open year round, there are many perks to visiting in the summer.  (Of course, don’t stop visiting in the cooler months; zoos need our support!) One perk to visiting before summer’s end is the ability to enjoy the butterfly garden – a special exhibit that closes on September 4.

5. Visit Nickelodeon World

Of course an end-of-summer list wouldn’t be complete without at least something in Mall of America: Nickelodeon World. Big kids and thrill seeks can take a spin on the AirBender while smaller children find their own pint-sized thrills on Guppy Bubbler and Diego’s Rescue Rider. And if you’re brave enough, check out the Double Dare Challenge.

6. Visit Split Rock Lighthouse and State Park

Camping and ‘smores is one summer classic that you shouldn’t miss.  Reserve a tent camping site at Split Rock State Park and enjoy the outdoors all week long. From tours at the Lighthouse to hiking along a 205-mile trail, you won’t run out of things to do. Although plenty of winter activities are available, access to the lighthouse (and it’s 1000-watt bulb) is not available year round so make sure you make a point to visit the lighthouse on your trip.

Of course, the best part of all of these stops on your bucket list is enjoying family time together.  So whether you take a cruise down the Mississippi or scream throughout the AirBender, soak in the last rays of summer as you get ready to tackle another school year.
